Swedish Massage

David has had several class hours of training in Swedish massage.
Developed in the 1700’s by a Swedish physician, Swedish massage, often termed “relaxation massage,” is probably the most common massage style in America. Swedish massage uses five basic movements to increase circulation while removing toxins from muscles. Applying oil or lotion, the therapist uses firm but gentle pressure mostly moving in the direction of the heart. The strokes are often long and flowing-known as effleurage. Petrissage is when the muscles are kneaded causing the muscles to relax due to rhythmic compression.
Percussion is the repetitive tapping of tissue creating an invigorating experience. Another invigorating stroke uses “friction,” a strong, rapid circular movement usually implemented to release knots. Lastly is the vibration of muscles using hands or a machine to release tension or cramping. Joint movement and stretching are also popular techniques in Swedish massage.
Benefits of Swedish massage at this point may be obvious-that the massage is both relaxing and invigorating while establishing a sense of well-being. For your health Swedish massage aids to increase circulation and blood flow while removing toxins.
